What is the difference between Minoxidil and Trioxidil?

Minoxidil and Trioxidil are both topical treatments that support hair regrowth, but they work in different ways.

  • Minoxidil is an FDA-approved medication that increases blood flow to the scalp, stimulating hair follicles and encouraging new growth.
  • Trioxidil, developed by FOLIGAIN®, is a drug-free, triple-action complex powered by peptides, antioxidants, and botanicals. It helps block DHT, nourish the scalp, and strengthen hair from the root for long-term hair health.

Together, they target both the causes and visible effects of hair thinning for stronger, fuller-looking hair.

Can I use Minoxidil and Trioxidil together?

Yes! Trioxidil can be safely used alongside FOLIGAIN® Minoxidil 2% or 5%. These formulas are designed to complement each other—Minoxidil stimulates growth, while Trioxidil supports scalp health and strengthens follicles for optimal results.

What are the benefits of using Minoxidil and Trioxidil together?

Using both products together provides a comprehensive approach to hair health.

  • Minoxidil boosts circulation to reactivate follicles and encourage new growth.
  • Trioxidil nourishes the scalp, fortifies hair roots, and helps reduce DHT’s impact.

Combined, they promote thicker, healthier-looking hair and support long-term regrowth.

Why can women only use 2% Minoxidil while men can use 5% Minoxidil?

Minoxidil 2% is the recommended strength for women to reduce the risk of side effects such as scalp irritation or unwanted facial hair growth. Men’s 5% Minoxidil is a higher concentration designed to address male pattern hair loss, which typically requires a stronger formula.

What is the difference between Minoxidil 5% Hair Regrowth Treatment and Low Alcohol Minoxidil 5% Hair Regrowth Treatment?

Both formulas contain the same 5% Minoxidil active ingredient for regrowth. The Low Alcohol version is specially designed for sensitive scalps—it has a milder base that helps reduce dryness or irritation while delivering the same effective results.

What happens if I stop using the treatment?

Minoxidil must be used continuously to maintain results. If you stop applying it, new hair growth may gradually shed, and your scalp may return to its previous pattern of thinning within a few months.

Are there any side effects?

Most users tolerate Minoxidil well, but some may experience mild scalp irritation, dryness, or itching. These effects are usually temporary. If irritation persists or you notice unusual symptoms, discontinue use and consult your healthcare professional.

Will I start experiencing shedding?

Maybe. Mild shedding is common in the first few weeks of treatment. This is a normal part of the hair renewal process as weaker hairs are replaced by newer, thicker strands. Shedding typically subsides within 2–8 weeks as regrowth begins.
